ATA Points Missing? How to Check and Fix Them

ATA tournament points not showing? Why points go missing in 2026-27, what to check first, and how to file ATA's point correction form within 30 days.

It's Wednesday night. You open the standings, scroll to the right name, and Saturday's 2nd place isn't there.

(You refresh. Twice. It's still not there.)

Refresh. Refresh again. Still not there.

Here's the good news. Most missing ATA points aren't lost: they're late, they're waiting on another result, or they were never going to post. Check which one it is first. If it turns out to be a real mistake, file ATA's official point correction form within 30 days of the tournament being posted to the standings.

Let's find out which kind yours is.

Think of every point as a package

Every placement ships a package of points to the standings. Like any package, it can only go missing in a few ways:

  • It's late. It's on its way and hasn't arrived yet.
  • It's waiting for company. It got there, but it's held until another package arrives.
  • It was never sent. The result didn't earn points in the first place.
  • It has the wrong address. Something on file doesn't match, so it can't be delivered.
Four packages on a doorstep: one late, one waiting, one never sent and one with the wrong address
Late, waiting, never sent or the wrong address. Only one of them needs a claim.

Only the last one needs a claim. The other three just need you to know about them.

Rule 1: Give it a few days

ATA posts points to the standings about twice a week. Every effort is made to post on Wednesdays and Fridays, so a Saturday tournament may not show up until the next update, or the one after.

In-school (Class C) tournaments can take longer. The host school has seven business days after the tournament to send its results to ATA headquarters.

One more thing has moved: the standings aren't public anymore. They live in MyATA, so you'll need to log in to an ATAMartialArts.com account to see them. (No profile yet? The athlete's instructor can help set one up.)

Rule 2: Some points wait for company

In-school points don't show in the standings on their own. No more than half of a season total can come from Class C, so in-school points wait until there are regional, national or world points to match them.

If an athlete wins an in-school tournament before placing at any regional, those points sit in the mailroom until a Class A or Class B result arrives. Our guide to how ATA points work has the full picture.

Rule 3: Some points were never sent

Some results don't earn points at all, however well the athlete did. Nothing is missing here. The package was never shipped.

  • Recreational divisions (they used to be called Novice) award no points. All Tiger divisions are Recreational.
  • Small in-school rings. A Class C division with fewer than three competitors awards no points.
  • Not enrolled yet. State points only go to color belts and black belts officially registered in the ATA Leadership or Legacy program. They count from the date on the welcome letter from ATA headquarters, not the day the paperwork was done at school.

Rule 4: Some points have the wrong address

These are the real mistakes, and they're worth chasing.

  • An expired membership. If the ATA membership has lapsed, none of the points post. Renew it, then file a correction within the same 30 days.
  • The wrong age, rank, gender or division. If the details were wrong, the points may not post where they should. Caught on the day? The ATA Help Desk at the tournament can change the division. Caught later? That's what the correction form is for.

Rule 5: File the claim within 30 days

If the points really are missing, ATA takes corrections one way only: its official point correction form. Other channels aren't accepted.

  • The clock is 30 days. It starts the day the tournament is posted to the standings, not the day of the tournament. After that, ATA takes no corrections for any reason.
  • April is different. For tournaments held in April 2027, the deadline is May 5, 2027.
  • Have these ready: the competitor's full name, ATA number (with the dashes), age, division, an email address, the tournament's date and location, the events, and the reason.
  • Then be patient. ATA says a correction can take longer than 30 days to sort out. What matters is sending it inside the window.

The quick check, in order

  1. Has there been a Wednesday or Friday update since the tournament? If not, wait.
  2. Was it an in-school tournament? Give the host seven business days, then look for regional or higher points to match.
  3. Was it a Recreational or Tiger ring, or a Class C ring with fewer than three? Then there were no points to post.
  4. Is the athlete enrolled in Leadership or Legacy, with a welcome letter dated before the tournament? If not, State points won't post.
  5. Is the membership current, and were the age, rank and division right? If not, fix it and file the form.
  6. Still missing after all that? File the form, well inside the 30 days.

One date for Recommended black belts

A 1st Degree Recommended black belt has one more deadline. Their Decided rank must be recorded at ATA headquarters by May 15. Miss it, and every State and World top ten point for the season is forfeited.

Put May 15 on the calendar now.

So the next time you refresh the standings twice, you'll know whether to wait for the mail or file a claim.

ATA's standings are the official record, and the rules can change from season to season. This guide follows the 2026-27 ATA tournament rules.
